Welcome to our next seminar which is a special edition. We are hosting a free online seminar together with GenScript Europe on

This time, we are happy to announce two speakers who will share their personal stories on how they transitioned from academia into industry. You will be able to get insights into the role of a Field Application Scientist as well as a Marketing Manager.

Shuting Xu received her Ph.D. degree from Hanover medical school in Germany. She holds a Master’s degree in Biology from University of Ulm, Germany, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Nanjing Agricultural University, China. Her Ph.D. research mainly focused on virus-related innate immune responses. Her Ph.D. and postdoc projects have been published in various leading journals and received five different prizes in Germany and the USA, including the German AIDS prize.

After her academic career, she started an adventure as a freelancing consultant, which intended to support international lab collaborations. Currently, Shuting works as Field Application Scientist at GenScript Europe, in which role she supports customers and the internal commercial team for technical issues.

Elaine Lima de Souza is a business-minded life science professional. In her actual position as Marketing Manager at GenScript, she aims to facilitate communication about science and technological solutions. Previously, as her first industry job, she started in a position combining many commercial roles, such as sales, BD, and marketing.

Elaine has a solid scientific background with 15 international scientific publications and four outstanding scientific awards. She has worked for five years in a postdoctoral position. She worked at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for three years. For another two years, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she also obtained a Ph.D. in Sciences.
